For their fortitude under the most inhuman conditions and their place as the rallying point in the struggle against terrorism the Chibok girls are
LEADERSHIP Young Persons of the Year 2014.
On the night of April 14, 2014, 276 female students were kidnapped from the Government Secondary School in the town of Chibok in Borno State, Nigeria. Responsibility for the kidnappings was claimed by Boko Haram, an Islamic Jihadist and terrorist organisation based in northeast Nigeria. Ever since, and typical of most things Nigerian, the fate of those unfortunate girls has become like a pun on the nation’s political chessboard. Their continued detention by those purveyors of evil has continued to generate outrage around the country and internationally. The anguish of their parents is unimaginable and we empathise with them. Our hearts are always with those lovely girls who are suffering for daring to take their destiny in their own hands by going to school.View All 2014 Award Winners
