We the Youths for Socioeconomic Re-orientation (YSR), would like to express for Your Excellency’s recent appointment of Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed as President Muhammadu Buhari’s Senior Specal Assistant on Social Investment Programmes (SIPs). This is one among several appointments made by this administration that indicates its sensitivity to the yearnings of the people. We are confident that there is no better person for this position as Barr. Ismaeel who has spent a large part of his life advocating for the common man with his ears always tuned to even the tiniest whispers of the unremembered and unrepresented masses of Nigeria; regardless of ethnicity or religious orientation.
Given that considerable time has been spent in planning and test-running several of the SIPs initiated by this government, it is quite strategic that an addition is made of an individual in Barr. Ismaeel; with unquantifiable qualities who is already in tune with the administration to hit the ground running on executing the expansion plans the government has for the four major Social Investment Programmes.
The Youths for Socioeconomic Re-Orientation (YSR) an emerging youth group that has stepped up to change the mindset of Nigerian youths towards meaningful economic contributions in the society. We are strategically focused on educating youths on self-reliance as means of reducing their dependence on the government which by extension, will increase focus on children and the elderly (which are the ideal dependents). Our name stands as “Youths for socioeconomic re-orientation” because our mission is not only to re-orient youths towards self-reliance, but to make them agents of re-orienting others as well: that way, we believe we will cover more grounds in shorter amount of time.
As report from Your Excellency’s good office indicates, the government has expended ₦41 Billion on N – Power, Government Enterprises Entrepreneurship Programme (GEEP), Conditional Cash Transfer Programme (CCTP), and the Home Grown School Feeding (HGSF) Programme. The success of the millions of lives already touched by these programmes is testament of the need for their extension to cover the 36 states of the federation and the FCT. There is no gainsaying that the SIPs is the heartbeat of this administration’s promise delivery to the electorates as it directly affects the lives of the bulk of those who stood on long queues for untold hours to vote for total and lasting change.
For some time we have had governments focus on those they assume are the direct and main revenue generators in an attempt to have a quick fix to Nigeria’s economy. While creating an enabling environment for multinationals, and indigenous large scale businesses remains vital, we cannot be more relieved that we finally have a dispensation that has placed equal importance to the little guy. Creating a balance between the haves and the have- nots has been the missing link in totally eliminating the nation’s economic succubus where one part of the social divide, drains the other, thereby increasing the over-dependence on the government.
The importance of persistence and continuity in discharging good governance has been long established but we have now pleasantly come to realize that a major ingredient of continuity is synergy as has been shown by the President Muhammadu Buhari and Your Excellency as Acting President. This administration’s infallible interchange that keeps the seat of power as formidable as it is fully and consciously occupied has enhanced the efficacy of governance. You must be commended for his unwavering determination and focus Your Excellency, which has kept you steadfast in astutely continuing for President Muhammadu Buhari who is on a medical vacation.
This government has proven that it is desirous about delivering on its campaign promises therefore paramount among what it needs from us, is our unalloyed support and solidarity. This letter serves as YSR’s declaration of unflinching support as we continue on our resolve to re-orient the youths of Nigeria, of the ineffable potentials of socioeconomic benefits that the Buhari/Osinbajo administration perpetually unearth.
In addition to praying for President Muhammadu Buhari’s good health and safe return, and for Your Excellency to be granted the fortitude to sustain the collective resolve for nation building,YSR is also offering her support and resources to the young, vibrant and visionary Barr. Ismaeel so that he shall make good on the mandate of his herculean office.
Once again accept our appreciation, loyalty and unfiltered goodwill Your Excellency, Sir.
Obinna Okafor, Olaolu Johnson and Abubakar Barde write this open letter to Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on behalf of the Youths for Socioeconomic Re-orientation (YSR).
