The Pro Chancellor and chairman of the governing council, Plateau state University Bokkos Prof. Mohammad Attahiru Jega has applauded Governor Simon Lalong and visitor to the university for his commitment which has started yielding results.
The former INEC Boss also advocated for sustainable funding for the institution to rise shoulder high with its equals around the world.
Jega stated this at the two -day retreat for members of the Governing Council held at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies NIPSS Kuru near Jos.
According to him, with adequate and sustainable funding, the varsity will compete globally with its peers.
Meanwhile, the Plateau State governor, Simon Lalong has reiterated the commitment of his administration in repositioning the state university to be a globally competitive citadel of learning.
The retreat had the theme “Prospects and Challenges in the 21st Century.”
The governor, who was represented by the deputy governor and the commissioner for Higher Education in the state, Prof Sonny Tyoden expressed happiness with the level of stability the university has achieved in the last couple of years.
He explained that such a climate has largely been tenable due to the leadership exhibited by the visitor, Pro – Chancellor and members of council, since the restoration of academic activities at his inception as the governor of the state.
The visitor added that the government is working assiduously to ensure that all the courses and programmes offered by the institution have full accreditation, particularly those which got interim accreditation in the shortest time possible.
In his opening remark, the vice chancellor of the university, Prof Doknan Danjuma Decent Sheni noted that the retreat was to acquaint both old and new members of council on the workings, governance and administration of the university so as to achieve efficient service delivery .
