Renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Usman Sanu- Sheu, yesterday warned Nigerian leaders, especially state governors to desist from making propaganda and lies hallmark of governance.

He posited that any public office holder who reneges on his electioneering campaign promises us a liar”and is inviting the wrath of God.”l

Sanu -Sheu stated this in a brief but thought provoking sermon in Ilorin, Kwara state  at  the naming  of the grandson  of the Special Adviser to the Senate President on Special Duties and Protocols, Alhaji Mashood Mustapha.

The event was graced by the Speaker Kwara state House of Assembly, Dr Ali Ahmad and former Special Adviser to the state Governor on Communication Strategy, Alhaji AbdulRaheem Adedoyin among others.

The cleric warned politicians to shun propaganda and lies, which he pointed out pervaded governance across the country.

“What we have come to realize in this society of ours is that propaganda and lies have become synonymous with political class and even those with no political affiliations. Whenever they make promise to people, it always ends in tissue of lies. They relish lies.

“You cannot expect a society to move forward when you have people in positions of authority lying to people. This is not good but it is unfortunate that this is what they have prioritized. You can’t claim to be governing the people while lying to them. Therefore, it is incumbent to change their ways, seek repentance and return to God so that we can get out of this quagmire”, the cleric said.

The cleric admonished states governors and other public officers to govern the populace with truth and nothing but the truth, saying that is the only way  to ebsure the wellbeing of the citizens.

He urged politicians to cultivate the fear of Almighty God and be prayerful in their various decisions and undertakings.

He blamed the failure of those in government to keep their promises for the economic hardship being faced by Nigerians.

He  posited  that the country could overcome the economic hardship only through the nnn divine help .

He noted that the economic hardship was biting harder that people now approach those who have nothing to offer to squeeze money out of them to beat the pangs of  recession.

The cleric said the situation appeared to have defied all solutions except and  enjoined the political class” not to allow the suffering to persist because people genuinely brought them to power.”
