The Oba Rilwan Babatunde Akiolu has charged the Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Kpotun-Idris to be firm and courageous in the discharge of his duties.
The monarch said that, this was ensure the effective protection of lives and properties of Nigerians.
Speaking when the IGP paid him a courtesy call, Oba Rilwan said, ‘’know that God Almighty gives position and power to who so ever he wish, and as such discharge your primary role of providing maximum security to Nigerians without favour.’’
He lauded him for reducing crimes and criminality in the country to the barest minimum.
‘’Since you came on board about one year ago, we have witnessed tremendous reduction in crime, even i trust all police officers with mobile training has the capacity, strength, knowledge and operational to police this country well.’’
The traditional ruler further prayed to God,’’ never to give power to corrupt people in this country again.’’
Oba Rilwan also noted that te country has suffered major set back in the hands of corrupt people
He prayed for speedy recovery of President Muhamadu Buhari and his safe return to the country
The Oba also prayed that God Almighty will give’’ him the strength, power and sound health to continue with the good work he has started.’’
He advised the IGP to always to focus on the welfare of his officers and men of the force, to enable them discharge their duties effectively
He called on traditional rulers to cooperate with the police to fish out the bad eggs in their mix
This will enable us have a crime free society and will as well assist the police to fight crime and criminality effectively
He appealed to FG to assist police with their needs
He said,’ security should not be toyed with, government should strive to assist security agents with their needs, so that Nigerians can go to bed with their two eyes closed.
Speaking earlier, IGP Idris underscored the role of traditional institutions in complementing the effort of security operatives in checkmating criminal activities.
He appealed to Royal fathers to assist in sensitize their people on the unity, harmonious and peaceful coexistence as well as educate the people on the importance of community policing.
The police boss said that the role of traditional institutions in sustaining peace and unity in the country could not be under-emphasized and noted that the police force will not relent in partnering the institution.
According to him, “traditional rulers in the country have in no small measure supported and cooperated with the police and other security agencies which resulted in success recorded in curbing criminal activities”.
The police chief also stated that he was in the palace to receive the royal blessing, adding that “It is extremely important to receive your blessings now that am in the state on a 2 day working visit
