Following the sackings the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal and the former Director-General of National Intelligence Agency, NIA, Ambassador Ayo Oke, a coalition of Niger Delta agitators have commended President Muhammadu Buhari.
The agitators also declared total support to the president’s effort to develop the Niger Delta region.
In a statement the youths however called for the dissolution of the current Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) led by Sen. Ndoma Egba and Mr. Nsima Ekere as Chairman and MD respectively, saying that they have derailed from the mandate of the board.
Those who signed the statement included General John Duku (Niger Delta Watchdogs and Convener Coalition of Niger Delta Agitators); General Ekpo Ekpo (Niger Delta Volunteers); General Osarolor Nedam (Niger Delta Warriors); Major-Gen. Henry Okon Etete (Niger Delta Peoples Fighters); Major-Gen. Asukwo Henshaw (Bakassi Freedom Fighters); Major-Gen. Ibinabo Horsfall (Niger Delta Movement for Justice); Major-Gen. Duke Emmanson and (Niger Delta Fighters Network).
Others were Major-Gen. Inibeghe Adams for Niger Delta Freedom Mandate; Major-Gen. Abiye Tariah for Niger Delta Development Network; Major-Gen. Joshua Ebere for Renewed Movement for Emancipation of Niger Delta; Major-Gen. Jeremiah Athony for Movement for Actualization of Niger Delta Republic; Major Francis Okoroafor For Niger Delta Freedom Redemption Army and Colonel Nelson Okochi Walter.
The statement read: “We declare our total and unalloyed support to the administration of President Muhamadu Buhari in his effort to develop the Niger Delta region, and we pledge to give the Federal Government all the necessary support they may require in order to change the situation of the Niger Delta region as stipulated in the Niger Delta master plan.
“We commend Mr. President for sacking the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Alh. Babachir Lawal and the Director-General of National Intelligence Agency (NIA); and we also call on President Muhammadu Buhari to also suspend the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Dr. Maikanti Baru, and set up a high powered Committee to investigate the mismanagement and other misconducts going on in NNPC as seen in the leaked memo.
“We unanimously call on Mr. President to dissolve the current Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) led by Sen. Ndoma Egba and Mr. Nsima Ekere, Chairman and MD respectively as they have derailed from its mandate. For avoidance of doubt, the current board of NDDC especially Office of the Managing Director and Executive Director – Projects are currently engaged in awarding contracts worth billions of Naira to their family members, friends and political associates; with evidence in our hands, the immediate senior brother to the MD of NDDC handle a contract worth over N5 billion naira, this contract was awarded without following due process, the senior sister to the MD was recently awarded a contract worth N800 million naira without following due process; a former Member of the House of Representative from the MD’s Federal Constituency and his in-laws also handle contract worth over 300 and 500 million naira each.
Recently, the MD has flooded Akwa Ibom State with contract award letters to APC Stakeholders at all the Local Government Chapters in the state in order to project his 2019 governorship ambition. The award letters which copies are in our possession and we will soon release to the press for general public to see are between 150m, 200m, 300m and above.
This same act also happens in the office of the Executive Director – Projects. We therefore call on Mr. President to dissolve and reconstitute the NDDC board with reliable, God fearing and trusted individuals that would be able to sustain the present peace in the Niger Delta through massive infrastructure development.
“We believe so much on you Mr. President and we demand that this present board of NDDC led by Mr. Ekere should be dissolved between now and November 31st, 2017 otherwise we would have no option than to return to the creek, the present board of NDDC is frustrating your effort in developing the Niger Delta region.
“Finally, we totally condemn the recent stoppage of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) meeting in Port Harcourt by the Police and DSS; and we warn that such thing should not repeat itself again as we may not take it lightly; PANDEF is the authentic voice of the Niger Delta people and we call on security agencies to immediately arrest the leaders of the Pan Niger Delta Peoples’ Congress (PNDPC) for trying to cause mayhem in the Niger Delta after PANDEF has worked tirelessly to restore peace in the Niger Delta region”.
