Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, on Thursday effected a minor cabinet reshuffle.
Confirming the development, spokesperson to the governor, Salihu Yakasai, said that the governor appointed Yardada Maikano Bichi as Commissioner for Women Affairs, replacing Zubaida Abubakar, who was moved to the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.
Speaking shortly after swearing-in of Mrs. Yardada, Gov. Ganduje said the change was necessitated by the fact that the former Commissioner of Budget and Planning was recently appointed Accountant-General of the state.
He said the new commissioner was appointed on merit, and urged her to put in her best towards attaining the goals of the administration.
The new commissioner is a former teacher and the Executive Secretary of the State Agency for Mass Education.
She has also worked for some years as education specialist with COMPASS, a USAID funded project and ESSPIN – DFID.
Meanwhile, Gov. Ganduje has signed into law the state’s Land Use Act 2016.
“The law will help to generate additional revenue needed to develop the state whose population is the largest in Nigeria,” the statement said.
“It encompasses taxes like tenement rates, ground rents and neighborhood improvement charge in addition to regularizing operating regulations and procedures for land transactions among other things.”
