By Kelvin Alohan The Supreme Court has removed Ali Modu Sheriff as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party reinstating Senator Ahmed Makarfi as the authentic chairman. A five-man panel of the apex court led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, in its judgment delivered on Wednesday, reinstated Ahmed Makarfi who was earlier sacked by the Port Harcourt Division of the Court of Appeal, as the National Caretaker Committee. Reading the lead judgment of the Supreme Court, Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour, held that contrary to the majority judgment of the Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt, the suit filed by Makarfi faction before the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt was not an abuse of court. By Kelvin Alohan with Agency Reports The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal filed by the candidate of the PDP challenging the election of Governor Godwin Obaseki for lacking in merit. The apex court said it would give in detail, its reasons for the judgment on July 24, 2017. A seven man panel led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onneghen unanimously dismissed the appeal. The CJN stated that the court had gone through the brief earlier, making it easier to arrive at a judgment as quickly as possible. The PDP candidate Mr Ize-Iyamu had approached the apex court filing the dismissal of his appeal at the Appeal Court, which challenged Obaseki’s election as governor.
