FIBA Africa Zone 3 has announced the postponement of its zonal elimination championship to be hosted by Nigeria from the 11th - 18th, November, 2017. This is contained in a letter signed by its President, Colonel Samuel Ahmedu (rtd) and addressed to FIBA Africa, the Nigeria Basketball Federation and 7 other countries under the zone. Ahmedu said the competition which should have dunked off on the 20th of October at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos was postponed due to administrative reasons despite the readiness of the host federation. NANS Condemn Crisis Rocking NBBF

National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has condemned in clear terms the crisis rocking Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), saying it is not in the interest of youth and detrimental to the development of youth in the country. This was contained in a statement signed by the SSA on sports to the national president of NANS, Comrade Godwin Erheriene. The statement noted that the Nigeria Students are always at the receiving end of any crisis, because they always bear the brunt of the storm since they are the ones play the game of basketball due to their passion for the game unlike the elderly citizens. BY Isaiah Benjamin, Kaduna Bauchi Nets of Bauchi and Kada Stars of Kaduna have replaced Mark Mentors and Defenders of Abuja in the ongoing Kwese Premier Basketball League Conference 6 playoffs holding at the Indoor Hall of Murtala Square Stadium in Kaduna. The competition which forms part of the last lap in the Kwese Premier Basketball League runs from August 14 to 20. According to organizers of the league, the need to replace both teams from Abuja became necessary due to the failure of the teams to honour their invitation to be part of the Conference 6 after qualifying to participate during the regular season. Plans have been concluded by the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Basketball Federation to organize the first test match for the Senior Women National team as they continue their training camp ahead of the 2017 Women Afrobasket tournament. The team popularly referred to as D’Tigress will engage Raptors Basketball Club of Lagos in a friendly game by 4pm on Wednesday during their evening training session. The game is geared at giving the Technical crew led by Sam Vincent the needed opportunity to assess the players in camp as they intensify their preparation for the event taking place in Mali. The game against the Division 1 club is the first of the test games lined up against local club sides before the team’s departure for Bamako on the 16th of August.

The leadership of the Nigeria Basketball Federation led by Engineer Musa Kida has expressed deep shock over the death of Daniel Daudu which occurred on Friday October 27, 2017. The former Nigerian junior international who was part of the junior D’Tigers to the 2007 World U20 Championship in Serbia was reportedly killed in an accident when a truck carrying two trailers rolled over on I-65 near I-465 on Indy's south side. One of the trailers rolled into the southbound lanes, hitting the car which the late Daniel was driving in the opposite direction and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Indiana State Police trooper.
