WARNING TO FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO SHUT DOWN OBEN GAS PLANT AND FLOW STATION IN EDO STATE.
The OBIKOBIG Youths of Oben Oil field comprises of Oben, Ikobi, Obozogbe-Nugu and Iguelaba communities are Warning the Federal Government that we will completely shut down flow station and Stop Oben Gas Plant Operation, if we are denied the appointment of Edo state NDDC Representative in the NDDC board.
The reason for our cry and suggestion to the Federal Government is that we have been neglected, cheated and marginalized for the past 42years and no meaningful development has been done in our communities, no infrastructures, no good Roads, our Youths are unemployed, no Scholarships even the Niger Delta Skill Acquisition that was brought to the communities was abandon. In respect of this we have written series of letters to:
The Managing Director NDDC, Dated 28th August, 2012
Mr. President, Dated 15th February/July 17th, 2013
Comrade Governor of Edo state, Dated 12th, March, 2013
The Benin Monarchy, Dated 1st and 6th of May,2013
The house of Assembly, Dated 13th July, 2013
The Senate President, Dated 23rd,July 2013
1st of August 2013 the OBIKOBIG Leaders and Youths met with the honorable Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Orubebe which he said our issue will be addressed to Mr. President.
It is very depressing that since the existence of NDDC, none of our indigene has benefited in any way including producing the Edo State NDDC representative. Edo State representatives in NDDC have been skewed in favor of a particular Local Government Area who only produces a very little quota of Edo State oil.
Below are the previous Edo State NDDC representatives in the past eight years:
Matthew Iduoyekemwen – 4 years – IkpobaOkha LGA
Dan Omorodion – 2 years – IkpobaOkha LGA
Henry Okhuarobo – 2 years – IkpobaOkha LGA.
The above shows that we have not been nominated or considered for this position before even when it is our right.
The Obikobig communities produces 95% of Oil and Gas in Edo State and we have the highest Gas reserve in West Africa Region, despite being the golden goose that laid the golden eggs, as we feed the Nation we have not been given any opportunity to Represent Edo State in the NDDC board.
We have sent to the state and Presidency the name of our son Barr. Enofe Courage Bendel to Represent Edo State in the NDDC board. We have also done series of mass protest to the Government house Edo State, State house of Assembly, National Assembly Abuja and there was a mass Protest at Oben Oil Field covered by AIT Television Dated 12th December 2013. Another mass Protest was carried out recently at Oben Flow Station covered by Channels Television Worldwide, Dated 11th March, 2014 with National News Papers.
The security agency and the Oil Company was informed that we were going to shut down and we gave them a 7days ultimatum, on that faithful day the Flow Station was Shut down by the company few hours before our arrival.
The NDDC board was inaugurated in December last years and all other State has gotten their NDDC Commissioners on Board leaving Edo state sit Vacant. We are saying the Act that Establish the NDDC Section 2, Sub Section 1(b) Cap N86, LFN 2000, that says an indigene of an Oil Producing Area to represent the state in the NDDC board; this law must be implemented in Edo State for peace to reign in this part of Niger Delta.
We call on Leadership Newspapers NG because we find you competent and we are crying for your aid for justice to prevail in Edo State.
