The Spokesperson for the Libyan Foreign Affairs Ministry, Said Lassoued on Sunday announced that the Portuguese embassy in Tripoli was attacked by unknown gunmen who injured a security guard.
The attack came hours after the disappearance of the Tunisian diplomat in Tripoli and two days after the abduction of the Jordanian ambassador in Libya.
According to Lassoued, the Libyan deputy foreign affairs minister, Abdelrazek Al-Kridi, visited the Portuguese embassy shortly after the attack.
Lassoued disclosed that the attack was an armed robbery attempt, stressing that the Libyan diplomatic police forced the attackers to run away and leave their vehicles behind.
He said that investigations into the incident have started, with a view to identifying the attackers and bringing to justice. (PANA/NAN)
