Yobe State government has sacked massively, local government ghost workers, comprising of Fika, Nangere, Potiskum, Bade and Nguru Local Government Areas shortly after the verification exercise.
Investigation made by our state correspondent showed that, the LEA teachers and LGA workers were affected in five councils as a result of ongoing verifications exercise across the state
Sparking in an interview with our reporter yesterday, the permanent secretary, ministry for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Yahaya Ado, confirmed that, it was quite disturbing that the monthly allocation that came to the councils always went into the payment of ghost workers salaries.
He added that, the state government would also fish out the ghost workers staff of the other councils, saying it was unfair for the past administration of the chairmen to employ staff and primary school teachers, saying such appointments would be cancelled.
Ado said that the ministry for Local Government had been able to settle the two months’ backlog of staff salaries after ongoing verification exercise was completed..
According to him, “in fact, we discovered that 75 percent of the local government workers who were recruited at both LEA and the council secretariat, had their letters of appointment backdated, but of course such people have to go because we cannot accept such criminality” he said.
