Barely seven days to the Edo State Governorship Election, former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has warned that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would face the music if it fails to recognize his candidate, Mathew Iduoriyekwemwen as the party’s candidate.
Member representing Egor/Kpoba-Okha Federal Constituency, Hon Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma, stated this after submitting a protest letter on behalf of Sheriff to the commission yesterday in Abuja.
Sheriff, who said Iduoriyekwemwen should be accorded recognition, maintained that Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu who emerged from the primaries conducted by Sen Ahmed Makarfi-led national caretaker committee of the party, is illegal candidate.
INEC had stated that it decided to recognize Pastor Ize-Iyamu because of the July 4 judgement which recognized the Makarfi leadership as legitimate. The commission also did not monitor the primaries which produced Iduoriyekwemwen.
