he newly appointed Senior Special Assistant to Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson on Political Matters,Hon. Miriki Ebikibina, Saturday commended President Muhammadu Buhari and the Acting Inspector- General of Police, Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, over their impartial posture towards the coming Governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states.
According to Ebikibina, the recent deployment of the Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Chris Ejike from the state, few days to the Governorship election showed that the warning of the Inspector-General of Politice on the non-partisanship of the police is credible and commendable.
Hon. Miriki Ebikibina, who made this known in Yenagoa at the weekend after his re-appointment by the State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson, said Lthe firm warning of the lGP to the police to be non partisan in the Edo election is proactive, assuring and clear indication of the commitment of the police to protect the sanctity of the ballot box and the electioneering process.”
” The swift redeploynent is a welcome march towards an assured peaceful, free and credible exercise by the Presidency in Edo and Ondo states respectively. The deployment of the Commissioner, would not have come at a better time, following the use of the instrumentality of security operatives, the incessant and discriminate arrest of percieved PDP and other opposition party members by the Oshiomhole led APC govt, with frivolus trump up charges and inlawful detention as a build up to the Sept. 10th Edo election.”
“While commending PMB and IGP for the commitment towards a peaceful and credible election in Edo state, the police and other security operatives must be non partisan and politicians must not see the election in rhe state as a do or die exercise and should allow the electorates to freely vote for candidate of their choice.”
