Edo Get New CP Ahead Of Guber Poll

A new Commissioner of police for Edo State,  Mr. Fimihan Adeoye  on Monday resumed duty in readiness for Saturday’s electoral process with an assurance that the rank and file of the command would deploy the needed professional conduct and strategy towards making the polls a hitch free process.

Fimihan replaces the outgone commissioner of police, Mr. Chris Ezike who handed over the baton to him during a short ceremony held in Benin the state calital

The outgone commissioner of police in the state, Mr. Chris Ezike on Monday blamed the challenge of inconclusive election that have dotted some states in the country to security challenges.

Ezike who stated this while addressing Divisional police officers and other top hierarchy of the command to herald the take of leadership of the command by Mr. Adeoye, said he was leaving the state better than he met it with a crime free state in areas of robbery, kidnapping and spate of cultism as well as other criminalistics that before now were the order of the day.

He reminded the new police boss, Fimihan, that the command would be faced with a lot of challenges in few days time with the official visit to Edo state by President Muhammadu Buhari today (Tuesday) for the grand APC rally at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium Benjn, the arrival of the new Inspector General of Police, IGP and the September 10 polls in the state.

He said “Nigerian are looking forward to a successful government election  in Edo state and therefore wished the new commissioner of police well in his new assignment.

The new commissioner of police, Mr. Adeoye assured that his tenure would sustain everything that has been put in place and to improve on them as “an apostle of crime prevention.”

“I want to say that I am an apostle of crime prevention, so we are going to be sustaining all the crime preventive strategies that have been put in place by the outgoing CP and that is to say that we are going to be reinforcing the song of policing and indeed security is everybody’s business. The idea of thinking that policing should be left to the police and other security agencies we want the people to discard. We are going to ensure we enlist their support in the policing of their own communities,”

He said, “Community policing like democracy is the policing of the community by the people and for the people, so the communities will be actively engaged in the policing of the society.”

Adeoye further tasked Edo people to be law abiding as they go to the polls on Saturday, adding that “out message is that everybody should be law abiding, nobody should take the laws in his hands; election is a process of choosing leaders, so people should learn to do it peacefully. So, everybody that is involved k. The conduct of the election should ensure that everything is done in accordance with the law.”
