The Nigerian Army yesterday began a 3-day medical outreach programme in Calabar South local government area of Cross River State, as part of its Operation Crocodile Smile in the Niger Delta.
Declaring the exercise open, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. TY Buratai, said it was aimed at impacting on the lives of residents in the area as part of the responsibility of the 13 brigade of the Nigerian Army.
Some of the medical services include free blood pressure test, drugs administration and provision of assorted food items.
Represented by the brigade’s commander, Brig. Gen. Bulama Biu, the COAS explained that the exercise was also in support of Operation Crocodile Smile.
He thanked the people for always supporting the military in the task of securing the nation, even as he asked for greater collaboration in order to sustain the peaceful coexistence in the area.
“We have come this morning to give you the little we can afford as your co-partner in securing the nation,” he said.
