…Cautions INEC And Security Agencies
Ahead of the Saturday, September 10, 2016 Gubernatorial Election in Edo State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday urged voters to avoid voting what it termed ‘Recession Team’ which it said will be a repeat of the 2015 general elections.
The party which made the call in a statement signed by its head of publicity division for the national publicity secretary, Adm. Chinwe I. Nnorom and made available to LEADERSHIP in Abuja, said voters should vote for its Flag-bearers, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and Hon. John Yakubu as governor and deputy governor of the state, respectively.
The PDP also cautioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to put everything in place to avoid another inconclusive election and urged the Security Agencies especially, the newly posted Commissioner of Police to Edo State, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye to remain neutral.
The party which applauded Edo citizens for the support given to its Candidate during the campaigns and maintained that the State should right the wrongs of the 2015 Polls in Nigeria, said that the non-performance of the ruling party, the APC in the state and the hardship Nigerians are currently facing nationwide are evidence that the APC has nothing to offer but empty promises.
“We want to thank Edo people for their support and solidarity so far. They have all shown their willingness to correct the mistakes of the 2015 Elections in Nigeria and we urge them to get their Voters Card ready to do justice on Saturday, September 10, 2016 by voting Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and Hon. John Yakubu as the new Governor and Deputy Governor of Edo State”.
The PDP described as pathetic and show of shame, the Tuesday, September 6, 2016 “Mega Rally” of the APC in Benin City, Edo State saying “We watched with dismay the show of disgrace and embarrassment by the APC in their ‘Recession Rally’ in Benin City and wondered how the Party will gather in front of the people they have impoverished with their high taxations, hunger, stagnation, poverty and insecurity, and still has such impudence to make the same empty promises”.
In conclusion, the PDP condemned in strong terms, the arbitrary arrest and detention of its members by Governor Adams Oshiomhole and other act of intimidation by the APC in the State to scare PDP members and Edo people from defending their mandate. The Party urged its members, supporters and other electorates not to be deterred saying that, the will of the people will prevail over all unholy tendencies.
