At least two persons were yesterday killed and many others injured in Lagos State, when members of the Hausa community clashed with their Fulani counterparts in Abattoir area of Agege, over supremacy and space rights.
LEADERSHIP learnt that crisis erupted when an unidentified Fulani man mercilessly beat up aHausa girl who reportedly offended him.
A resident who simply identified himself as Abdullahi, told journalists that, “there had been questions on who had the upper hand between the two – Hausa and Fulani -but they had continued to manage the situation. There has never been a very serious clash between them.”
Another resident, Yakubu said: “The latest crisis was as a result of the anger from the displacement of some Hausa scrap sellers by officials of the Nigeria Railway Corporation.
“The railway officials brought some rams and cow from the north and there was no where to offload them so they evacuated some iron scrap sellers occupying a large portion of land in the area
“After the railway officials displaced them from the railway line area, they went to the Sarki Fulani to protest but he expressed his helplessness and the Hausa boys accused him of supporting the officials.”
According to Yakubu, more than 20 Fulani people were severely injured in the crisis, adding that the Hausa people had accused one of them of beating a girl from their side.
