It was a harvest for detectives Monday night following the arrest of 54 suspected militants from the Niger Delta in various hideout in parts of Edo State  by a crack team of detectives from the police force headquarters in Abuja.

Several AK47 and pump action guns and N9million were recovered from the militants, who were said to have invaded Edo State from neighbouring states with a view to cause mayhem in the last Saturday governorship election which was postponed.

It was gathered that the covert operation which is ongoing was ordered  by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris following the discovery made by security agencies that they planned to unleash mayhem by Niger Delta militants in Edo State which led to the postponement of  the governorship election.

It was gathered that the police detectives were being assisted by the Intelligence Unit of the military hierarchy and Department of the State Security (DSS).

The arrested militants who were said to have invaded the state through the riverine communities in Edo State, were arrested in a popular hotel in Benin City and Okada town.

While most of the suspected militants were being interrogated, about 13 of them may be arraigned in court this week.

It would be recalled that Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has raised an alarm over alleged invasion of the state by militants on the invitation of the PDP, with a view to perpetrate violence during the elections.
