No fewer than 11 suspected victims of human trafficking from Edo, Delta and Kogi States have been apprehended in Katsina by Nigerian Immigration Service.
Parading the six males and five females, the State Comptroller of Immigration, Mohammed Rabiu Yaro, revealed that the Europe bound suspects were arrested by immigration operatives before they could enter into Niger Republic en route Agadez to Libya and then Italy.
According to him, none of the youths aged between 24 and 38 was in possession of any travel documents or any means of livelihood.
He lamented that the suspects were misled by the traffickers whose business is to ferry persons across the borders through illegal routes.
The newly appointed immigration helmsman in Katsina vowed to crush any human trafficking syndicate, saying Katsina would no longer be used as transit route.
Yaro, who promised to hand over the victims to NAPTIP Zonal Office in Kano for further investigation and prosecution, said Federal Government in collaboration with Italy and other European governments are determined to fight the menace of human trafficking.
