Court Remands 7 Over Breach Of Peace

For alleged breach of peace, seven persons have been remanded in prison custody by an Osun State Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ile-Ife.

The seven accused person, Posi Olabiyi, 51; Ayo Komolafe, 25; Afolabi Olaobaju, 23; Adams Mustapha, 23; Sheriff Mustapha 27; Lateef Eludini, 32 and Peter James, 50 were alleged to have caused breach of the peace at road 7, in Ile-Ife

The Police Prosecutor, Sgt Sunday Osanyintuyi, alleged that the accused committed the offence on Sept 15, 2016 around 06:00 pm at Road 7 area, Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Osanyintuyi said that the accused conspired within themselves to commit felony with intent to cause riot and disturb public peace.

He added that the offence was contrary to and punishable under sections 508 and 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol 11, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The plea of the accused was not taken by Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode who ordered written application for the bail of the accused persons.

Ijiyode condemned the physical outlooks of the accused adding that their appearance looks thuggery, with hair dreadlocks, earrings, despite that they were all men.

He stressed that he would not grant them bail, but ordered for their remand at Ile-Ife prison custody, for them to learn their lessons and maintain peaceful coexistence in the society at least for a while as he adjourned the case to Oct 18, for hearing.
