A group, the Niger Delta Elders Forum for Justice, has described as “laughable” and ” a mockery” the refusal of President Muhammadu Buhari to open investigation into the mounting allegation of corrupt practices against some of his aides including the Chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Committee, Brig. Gen. Paul Boroh and Chief of Staff to the President, ABBA Kyari.
According to the group, though any political officer holder and every Nigerian are innocent until proved guilty by a competent court of law, the refusal of President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate the allegations of corrupt practices leveled against some his aides is making mockering of the anti-corruption campaign of the present administration.
The group, the Niger Delta Elders Forum for Justice,in a statement issued in Yenagoa and signed by Elder Julius Abarowei, noted that though the anti-corruption war of President Buhari is facing crisis of confidence over alleged selective arrest and prosecution of loyalists of former President Goodluck Jonathan, the refusal to investigate the allegations against Boroh and Kyari.
According to the group,” We are at loss at the noticeable double standard being displayed by the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. As we have said in the past, and further vindicated by various group, the Amnesty office under Brig. Gen. Paul Boroh stinks. Despite his affirmed incompetence, Boroh and his cohorts have plundered the Amnesty funds with inflation of number of beneficiaries, diversion of funds and tampered contract payment.”
“The criminal trail left behind by the former Amnesty Boss is being taken over. After disgraceful spending of Amnesty money, we are shocked that Brig. Paul Boroh is seeking supplementary spending. Buhari should, as a matter of policy, investigate how the last budgetary allocation was spent. How can the last allocation be expended without additional provision for inclusion of new beneficiaries”
“Boroh has also been alleged to be pocketing a whopping sum of $700,000 in school fees for his ghost 20 ex-militants that he has fraudulently bloated to 70 delegates,” one of the ex-militants. A preliminary check at the amnesty office in Abuja revealed that there exists some level of conspiracy between some officials of the amnesty office and the contractor to corruptly enrich themselves.”
Also reported against Boroh, was a reported case of intimidation of petitioners with threat being by armed soldiers and that they would be delisted from the Amnesty payroll without a just issue against them. This is a clear case of gross misconduct against Boroh.”
On the allegation against the Chief of Staff (COS), Abba Kyari for taking over N500m from operators of MTN to help the telecommunications giant mitigate the fine imposed on it by the federal government. The evidence was presented to President Buhari several times including during the Sallah holiday. The mind-boggling revelation is the latest in the mounting allegations of corruption involving members of the top echelon of President Buhari’s administration.”
“We are shocked that inspite of the evidence presented to President Buhari several times including during the Sallah holiday. This latest mind-boggling revelation is the latest in the mounting allegations of corruption involving members of the top echelon of President Buhari’s administration.”
