A non-governmental organisation, Ene Cynthia Ogheh (ECO) Group of Companies, yesterday joined the rest of the world to celebrate the international Day of the Girl Child.

The international day of the girl-child celebrated every October 11 is a day set aside by the United Nations to celebrate girl-child development since 2012,

Speaking with journalists at an event to mark the day in Abuja yesterday, spokesperson of the group, Mrs Ene Idusuyi, assured that the foundation was out to support the girl-child.

“We are here to recognize the unique struggles girls face globally, recognize the potentials girls have to change the world for the better and also promote girls right and highlight gender inequality that remains between girls and boys.

Idusuyi said that the day is an opportunity for individuals, civil society organisations (CSOs), NGOs to raise awareness on the different types of discrimination and abuses that many girls around the world suffer from forced marriages, early motherhood, sexual abuses, gender discrimination, as well as lack of access to social basic services (education and prompt justice).”
