A group, International Society for Civil Liberties and the Rule of Law, has commended the men of the Nigerian Army and the Anambra State Taskforce on Road Decongestion for smashing a hide-out in Onitsha, operated by a hideous terror gang.

Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Group, Mr Emeka Umeagbalasi gave the commendation in a statement issued in Onitsha yesterday.

The statement noted the prevalence of pick-pockets, bag-snatchers, robbers and armed robbers among other miscreants who had been terrorising the area without any serious check.

“We are happy with the smashing of the hideout operated by the terror gang at Upper Iweka, Onitsha in Anambra State.”

The group which described the successful operation as not being enough appealed for other parts of the area to be routinely combed by a crack team of detectives.

According to the statement there should also be a proper investigation into the discovery and recovery of the dead bodies and the instruments responsible for their death, including human and material instruments.

“The investigation should go beyond liquor-joint or drunken-cop patterns, to pathological and forensic types,” the statement said.

It would be recalled that the remains of 20 corpses, human dry bones and two guns were found last Thursday inside a tunnel at the Upper Iweka Bridge in Onitsha.
Also found were filled and empty cans of acid, food items and mattresses.
