Former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dino Melaye has been arrested by the police for allegedly attempting to incite violence.
He was arrested about an hour ago, while leading a peaceful protest against the removal of fuel subsidy as announced by the federal government yesterday.
Although details of the arrest were not clear, LEADERSHIP gathered that the former rep has been taken to the Command Headquarters, Garki, for questioning.
LEADERSHIP had reported earlier that hundreds of Nigerians joined Melaye in signing a protest register at the Eagle Square Abuja, as part of protests against the removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government.
Melaye said all Nigerians want is for President Goodluck Jonathan to reverse the anti-people policy of deregulation
He told the crowd that President Jonathan’s government has grown from a ‘weak government to a wicked government”.
"We are giving President Jonathan till 12 noon tomorrow to reverse the removal of subsidy or we’ll give him the Egypt treatment. I will be meeting with the leadership of the NLC to defend the people and if they don't we are the labour, and we will defend our country," he warned.
