The national president of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Comrade Dauda Mohammed, has accused one Adakole Ochai of impersonation over the purported endorsement of the removal of fuel subsidy.
The president said in a telephone interview with LEADERSHIP that ‘It will be recalled that i and other executive members had on the 12th December 2011 met President Goodluck Jonathan to discuss issues of the subsidy removal in a meeting facilitated by His political Adviser, Mr. Ahmed Gulak and Having pledged to us that the government will further its consultation till sometimes around April 2012, we were surprised to see the government announcing the subsidy removal to the shock of Nigerians on the 1st of January 2012.
He revealed that ever since then, ‘the political adviser to President Jonathan, Mr. Ahmed Gulak has been mounting immense pressure on our association to endorse the subsidy removal. The climax of this was His invitation of the 2nd runner up in the last NANS election to impersonate the position of the NANS President to conduct the purported endorsement.’
He lamented with contempt that there is a desperate move by the government ‘to railroad our organisation into supporting the fuel subsidy removal despite our initial position that government must broaden its consultation and put in place necessary requirements before embarking on deregulation.’
He however pledged to Nigerians and especially the students that NANS did not at any moment endorse the unpopular removal of fuel subsidy and shall join Nigerians in resisting it to the latter and will stand behind the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and on no account will it rescind on its position.
