A suspected link man of Boko Haram, Alhaji Nuhu Babawo, popularly known as (Intelligent) was yesterday morning picked up by soldiers in Kaduna with arms and ammunitions.
Babawo is a former chairman of Tankers Drivers Association, Kaduna State branch.
The soldiers, LEADERSHIP SUNDAY gathered, acted on a tip off, swooped on the residence of the Boko Haram link man at Trikania along Nnamdi Azikiwe Road at about 1am and apprehended him.
LEADERSHIP SUNDAY also gathered that arms and ammunitions including military and police uniforms were discovered at the House.
The suspect was reportedly taken to an undisclosed military location for further interrogation.
A security source who confirmed the arrest, said “the soldiers acted on a tip off that the suspect was housing weapons. And we also gathered that the suspect was distributing weapons to some people to carry out attacks on innocent Nigerians. And when the soldiers went to the house, they found guns, bullet, military and police uniforms. He is with the ilitary now.”
Meanwhile, hundreds of youth in the area blocked the busy Nnamdi Azikiwe road in protest against Babawo’s arrest. It took the quick intervention of a combined effort of the security men to disperse the youth.
The youth said it was illegal for the soldiers to arrest the man they described as their ‘God father’ and that they would continue protesting against the decision of the soldiers until his release.”
A resident of the area, Mr. Ben Oju, who spoke to LEADERSHIP SUNDAY, accused the suspect of aiding and supporting the last April crises.
He said, “He gave weapons for some people to fight during the last April election. He is known of that attitude in the area, we are happy about his arrest”.
As at the time of filing in this report, the suspect is still being detained by the military.
