NTDC Opens New Investment Window For Nigeria At FITUR

In fulfilment of its promise to market the tourism potentials of Plateau and other States of Nigeria, the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation yesterday in Madrid at the annual International Trade and Tourism Fair (FITUR) sealed a holiday deal for the plateau.

Director-General of the corporation, Otunba Segun Runsewe, after talks with the executive of Talento Internacional, a Madrid-based tour firm, said the spanish company specialises in organising honeymoon for would be couples.

Runsewe said the choice of Plateau State was informed by its cool weather, similar to what obtains in Europe and the Americas.

Arambarri told the NTDC boss that his firm currently has over 14,000 clients seeking destinations in Africa and that he needed to know more about the destinations in Nigeria so he could bring his clients to Nigeria.

Africa has been featuring a great deal in global tourist receipts in recent years especially in the winter season when socio-economic activities are put on hold in most parts of Europe and North America because of freezing temperature. Nigeria offers an all year round favourable weather condition, a feature that makes it a ready destination for holiday makers.

Recall that the nation´s apex tourism agency was in Jos, the Plateau State capital for a weeklong peace mission last month, in collaboration with the office of the Chief of Defence Staff to placate the indegenes, preparatory to marketing the huge tourism potential of the State. Runsewe held talks with religious leaders, traditional and youth leaders and a peace concert which was attended by both Christian and Muslim groups.

Meanwhile, the annual trade and tourism fair which opened yesterday in Madrid and saw countries from Africa, the Amaricas, Europe and Asia and private tour operators, hotel owners and allied businesses parading tourist sites and destinations on their continents.
