The Benue State Police Command, yesterday, arrested 22 suspected Criminals in Gboko Local Government Area of the state. The police also disclosed that over 500 suspected criminals, cultists and drug dealers have been charged to court by the command.
Parading the 22 suspected criminals at the Police Officers’ Mess in Makurdi, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr John Haruna stressed the resolve of the command to permanently eradicate crime in the State and said that anyone caught in the act of terror or stealing would be lawfully dealt with.
The commissioner said that the criminals, who he said were arrested by men of the police A’ Division in Gboko and other local governments, have formed gangs and have being carrying out different criminal activities in the domains, carting away cash and other property of residents.
He explained that the other 500 suspects, who according to him, were charged to court had carried out certain suspicious operations and that the command was referring them to the court of law in order to be legally prosecuted.
Mr Haruna further noted that while the State police command had engaged in crime preventing activities, some armed robbers still went on to raid residents of their valuable belongings even as he said that some of the robbers were seriously injured during an encounter with Anti- Robbery Squad of the command.
