The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III , yesterday called on politicians to abhor politics of bitterness in the interest of peace.

Speaking on the political violence recorded in some part of the state’s metropolis, the monarch said it was high time that politicians in the state played clean politics devoid of thuggery and inciting words.

“We know it is Allah that gives power, and of all the candidates only one would emerge victorious at the end of it; therefore, I see no reason why we should be  fighting  ourselves in the name of politics.

“I was happy when I heard one of the candidates and former governor of the state saying politics is not a do-or-die affair. I hope the other candidates would borrow a leaf from him in the interest of peace and traquility, because we are all brothers and have no other home than here,” the monarch warned.

Sultan Sa’ad, who was receiving the  visiting acting Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Lawal Zayyana, urged him to, as a matter of urgency, tackle thuggery in the state.

“Try and call all the security agencies and map out ways of ridding the state of thuggery,” he said.

He prayed Allah to guide the governor in discharging his new responsibilities  and to make the forthcoming election a peaceful one.

Earlier, the acting governor had said he and his encourage were in the palace to seek the Sultan’s blessings  and guidance in their new assignment.
