Farmers in Abaji area council yesterday received free knapsack sprayers and other agro- allied chemicals, courtesy of the council’s administration.
Presenting the items, the council chairman, Hon. Musa Yahaya Mohammed said that the exercise was part of his obligatory responsibility towards the farmers, to guarantee a bumper harvest this farming season.
According to him, “Since our people are predominantly farmers, there is need to distribute free sprayers and agro-allied chemicals that would boost food production as well as reduce their suffering.”
While advising the youths to take up farming as a means of livelihood rather than lazying around and constituting a nuisance to the society, he urged the farmers to use the chemicals effectively.
Yahaya further stressed that the council had introduced a tractor-hiring-scheme, adding that four spoilt tractors had been repaired to serve the farmers adequately.
Speaking on behalf of the farmers, Mr. Ibrahim Audu Gulida, from Gurdi ward expressed happiness for the gesture and promised that the agrochemicals would only be used for farming activities in the area council.
He noted that the council would retain its name as the food basket of the territory, as the chemicals would assist to guarantee a bumper harvest.
