President of Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVF), Engineer Habu Gumel has applauded Aso Savings and Loans Plc for joining forces with the FCT chapter of Nigerian Volleyball Federation in promoting volleyball in the country. He made the commendation at the closing ceremony of the second edition of the FCT inter-club volleyball championship sponsored by the bank.
He said the seven-day double gender indoor volleyball tournament in which 22 clubs participated will afford NVF an ideal opportunity to identify talented sportsmen and women who could represent the country at the international stage. “If we have 22 clubs in FCT alone, participating in a tournament that is great. I commend Aso Savings for supporting the game of volleyball in FCT and Nigeria in general. “We will, in our own small way, reciprocate by monitoring talents discovered at this championship to the professional stage. At the next edition of the championship, we will donate balls and nets to FCT Volleyball Association in support of the championship,” he said.
Speaking to LEADERSHIP SPORTS, Chairman Nigeria Beach Volleyball Committee, Musa Nimron, noted that the sponsorship by Aso Savings and Loans would help push the desire of NVF for grassroots development. “This support given to FCT by Aso Savings would change the focus of the game and make it more attractive for Nigerians to appreciate. We have been talking of going to the grassroots and I believe this kind of support from the private sector will help us achieve our goal.”
Aso Savings and Loans Plc committed N2m into the championship with the winner in both categories smiling home with N50, 000 respectively. The runners up in both categories took home N30, 000 each while third place teams smiled to the bank with N20, 000.
