The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp located in Kubwa, Bwari area council is to be relocated to a more spacious location within the FCT.
The new location is however yet to be announced.
FCT minister of state, Navy Capt. Caleb Olubolade (rtd) who represented the FCT minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, at the opening ceremony of the batch ‘B’ 2011 orientation course yesterday, disclosed that the FCT administration had been mulling over relocating the camp, as the present one had proven to be too small to cater for the large number of corps members posted to the FCT.
“Looking at the large number of corps members here, it is evident that this location is inadequate for you and the FCT will have to do something about that,” he said.
Olubolade, who harped on the importance of patriotism, told the corps members that President Goodluck Jonathan was working seriously in the area of human capacity building, but warned that the corps members must be hardworking and patriotic in their service to the fatherland.
“I urge you to apply the knowledge you have acquired in your various institutions in any area you may be deployed, I urge you to make use of this great opportunity. I also wish to assure you that security measures have been put in place to ensure that no undue harm befalls you,” he added.
Earlier, the NYSC FCT coordinator, Mrs. Linda Amugo, made an appeal to the FCT administration to build for it a befitting orientation camp, noting that the existing one had been swallowed up by urban encroachment with its attendant problem of insecurity.
She disclosed that for this batch, the scheme in the FCT, registered a total of 5,927 corps members, comprising 3152 males and 2775 females, adding that some of them had been dislodged to Benue, Kano and Kaduna states for the orientation exercise, due to inadequate camp facilities in the FCT.
