Staff of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) and officials of Parking Enforcement, an agency under the Federal Capital Development Agency (FCDA), yesterday engaged in a physical combat over an alleged illegal collection of parking fees.
When LEADERSHIP WEEKEND visited the scene of the incident, officials of the agencies, police and VIO officials were seen trying to settle the impasse.
Speaking to LEADERSHIP WEEKEND, an official of Parking Enforcement who simply identified himself as Segun Fakoya, accused officials of SMEDAN, saying there is a certain amount people are expected to pay as fees whenever they park their cars.
“Other government parastatals within the same environment where SMEDAN’s office is located have obliged by paying the agreed amount of money they are supposed to pay except SMEDAN. When our officials came this morning, they issued tickets to staff of SMEDAN, but they refused to pay.
“When our men clamped down one of their staff’s vehicle, they all came out en masse and blocked the entire road with their cars, thereby obstructing free vehicular movement.
We have contacted FCDA, the police and VIO and arrests are being made right now and vehicles impounded. No one is above the law, they must be prosecuted,” Segun said.
