The Bayelsa State Government delegation led by the Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha Jonah (rtd) weekend visited the sites of the raging inferno in Kouama 1 and 11 in the Southern Ijaw Local Government area of the state caused by the January Chevron Gas Rig explosion, vowing to fight the oil company to a stand still on the protection and welfare of the indigenes of the area.
The deputy governor said though their visit was to get a first hand assessment of the resultant effects of the gas rig explosion from the Gas Well Head Blow-out and explosion from the K.S.Endeavour Rig operated by Chevron located at Apoi North oil field in Koluama, the position of the state government was for the oil company to provide necessary relief materials and restore the living conditions of the people.
Jonah said the state government expects nothing less from Chevron than the best standard practice by oil firms all over the world.
He called on the oil company to immediately clean up the environment and restore sanity to the area to allow the people resume their fishing trade which was their only source of livelihood.
