Three months after the explosion that rocked Kaduna commercial hub, the victims of the blast yesterday have disclosed the number of death toll arising from the December 7 explosion at Oriapkata spare parts market.

The victims, who put the death toll at 12, said it lost about N300 million worth of goods to the explosion.

The disclosure contradicts the initial police and the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) who had put the number of those killed during the incident as five last December.

Speaking to journalists in Kaduna, the victims lashed at government which they said had failed to redeem its promises to them, saying “not even food was given us as relief, not to talk of financial assistance. “

Speaking on behalf of the 23 victims who signed the text, Mr. Fabian Uzochukwu said: “12 people were killed as a result of the explosion and they have been buried. Till today none of the deceased families have been visited by government, nor has any form of compensation, not even food been given to the families now living on charity with friend and relations.

“We lost 14 shops and all the goods in them burnt to ashes. From what we have calculated, the goods were worth N300 million. That does not include the cost of the shops.”
