The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Abuja centre, on Saturday matriculated 1,000 students for the 2012 academic session.
The NOUN Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Vincent Tenebe, described the admission into the institution as a “golden opportunity”.
He appealed to the students to utilise the opportunity judiciously, urging them to see their admission as re-writing a new chapter in their lives.
Tenebe described the NOUN as an e-technology university and an example of higher education made easy.
“As you are already aware, the admission process is online, so also are the registration, assessments and examination processes.”
According to him, the university has prepared in multiple formats, the necessary study materials to assist students in distance learning.
He urged them to make good use of the materials and other learning facilities, as it would determine the level of their success at the end of the programme.
The vice-chancellor said that the institution was working at perfecting the online facilitation platform in its 47 study centres across the country.
“While the existing facilitation remain optional, the online mode will enrich and broaden facilitation.”
Tenebe added that some of the university’s courses had been streamlined for better focus.
Meanwhile, Mrs Ivy Nwachukwu, one of the matriculating students, said that she opted to enroll at the university to enable her to take care of her family and business.
NAN reports that Mr Matt Akale, the Director of the centre, had embarked on advocacy campaigns to educate people on NOUN’s benefits.
