Two people have been injured in Dutse, Jigawa, on Tuesday when a policeman opened fire on a commercial which rammed into a security barricade.
The reports that the incident occurred in front of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Cash office, where a policeman on duty opened fire at the Golf car registered AG 75 DUT, which was heading for the bank.
An eye witness, Malam Haruna Musa said the car had followed behind a convoy of CBN vehicles carrying money into the bank but ran into the barricade.
The driver, who was mistaken for an attacker was instantly shot at by the policeman.
However, apart from the CBN office, there is also a Divisional Police Office adjacent to the bank.
The incident made residents to flee into different directions for fear of their lives.
The two injured passengers, who were rushed to Rashid Shekoni Specialists Hospital, Dutse, were identified as Michael Sunday and Nafiu Garba, all of Kiyawa Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), ASP Abdul Jinjiri confirmed the incident, saying the driver had ignored warning shots and ran into the barricade which had been there for over three weeks.
According to him, the policemen are under alert and seen the car moving towards the barricade opened fire.
He, however, said investigations would be conducted on the incident.
