President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday in Abuja called on members of the PDP to remain united to be able to implement its development programmes.

The president made the call at the 59th National Executive Council meeting of the party.

“What holds us together is unity. As a political party, we must disagree, no doubt about that. In every organisation, people must disagree.

“But no matter what level of disagreement, people normally agree on a common cause and that is what has continued to make PDP a dominant party.

“We disagree to agree and when we disagree, it makes the party stronger.”

He held that PDP was the only political party in the country where every member was allowed to make input.

“In most other political party, we have one individual whose words are law but it is not so in PDP.”

He commended the present leadership of the party for piloting its affairs in the right direction.

He also congratulated the re-elected Governors of Adamawa, Bayelsa, Sokoto, and Cross- River, stressing that their re-election was well deserved.

Alhaji Kawo Baraji, Acting National Chairman of the party, said the death of former President Umaru Yar`Adua was among some of the challenges faced by the party in the last four years.

Baraji added that internal democracy was also a major issue to the party that had been overcome.

He told members that the ongoing review of the party’s constitution was to ensure that it became more democratic.

Baraji listed the ongoing construction of the party’s national secretariat and the harmonious working relationship between the executive and the legislative arms of government as some of the leadership’s achievements.

He implored the president and the governors to inspect the new secretariat complex to enable them to ascertain the progress of work.

Work has advanced to the 10th floor out of the 12 storey building.
