President Goodluck Jonathan has congratulated Pastor Enocch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) on his 70th birthday.
In a message on Thursday in Abuja, Jonathan commended him for his readiness to, at all times, offer spiritual and prayerful support to the country.
The President expressed “warm felicitation” of the government and Nigerians at large to Adeboye on his “symbolic landmark age of 70” to be attained on Friday.
He commended Adeboye for living ``a truly inspirational life and dedicated service in the vineyard of God”.
“You have lived a truly inspirational and inspiring life of dedicated service in the vineyard of the Lord, rising above the limitations of a background of deprivation to thrive in academics before going into full time ministry
“The phenomenal growth of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, of which you are the General Overseer, clearly testifies to God’s hand upon your life and your productive leadership qualities.”
He prayed Almighty God to continue to empower Adeboye “to successfully fight the good fight, fruitfully run the course, and continue to keep the faith”.
Adeboye was born on March 2, 1942 in Ifewara, Osun, to Moses Adeboye, a farmer and part-time traditional musician and Esther Adeboye, a trader in locust beans.
He obtained a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics from University of Nigeria Nsukka in 1967, a Masters Degree in Hydrodynamics and Doctorate in Applied Mathematics both from the University of Lagos in 1969 and 1975 respectively.
Adeboye abandoned his desire to become the youngest university Vice-Chancellor when he was converted in 1973 and later ordained Pastor.
He took over as the leader of RCCG when the founder of the Church, Rev. Jossiah Akinddayomi, passed away in 1982.
RCCG has witnessed a phenomenal growth under his leadership from 42 parishes when he took over to a network of over 15,000 parishes in 100 countries worldwide.
