The chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Micah Jiba has advised students who benefited from the council’s scholarship gesture to make use of the money in a proper way for the betterment of their future.
Jiba gave the charge through his supervisory councillor for education, Alhaji Jafaru Gwagwa, during the disbursement of N15million for 300 indigenes and non-indigenous students of AMAC, at the council secretariat, yesterday.
He said the scholarship touches both the students from the secondary and tertiary institutions across the country.
The chairman encouraged those who have no opportunity to go to school to do so, saying without education, they could not go very far in the society.
In her address at the occasion, the head of education and social development in the council, Mrs. Hajara Koce, urged the students to shun vices that would affect their education.
She commended the AMAC chairman for keeping to his campaign promise which had made students who dropped out of school to continue their academic pursuit.
Koce explained that the scholarship programme was an annual programe for students who had no sponsors for their academics and urged the students not to disappoint the administration.
One of the beneficiaries, Jemila Ahmed, commended the council for the gesture, saying the scholarship would help her further her aducation and promised not to disappoint the council.
