A pharmaceutical group, has donated insecticide treated mosquito nets valued at over N100, 000 to the wuse General Hospital.
This is in furtherance of efforts by the company to reduce the scourge of Malaria in the country.
The sales director of TETA Pharmaceutical Nigeria Limited, George Akinrole, who made the presentation on Wednesday, said the collaboration with the FCT administration was in fulfillment of the company’s social responsibility, to accelerate the achievement of the MDG target.
He said the company has donated same in Ondo State and will shortly be going to Kano to donate same in order to address the scourge of malaria in Nigeria.
Director, public health, FCT Health and Human Services Secretariat, Dr. Folashade Momoh, who received the items on behalf of the secretary, commended the company for the effort.
She lamented that over one million deaths were caused by malaria, which affects over five million people annually.
Momoh noted that the FCT had also been making efforts towards reducing the scourge of malaria, saying that in 2011, the FCTA participated in the national universal campaign of two nets per household, during 524,157 insecticide treated nets valued at over N53 million were distributed in the FCT.
She further disclosed that the administration had also released N1,248,000 to the roll back malaria unit to carry out malaria controlled related activities within the same year, just as the secretariat had also inaugurated a 30-member Roll Back Malaria Technical Working Group for the effective coordination of malaria control programmes in the FCT.
A total of 53 window insecticide mosquito nets, 29 curtain blinds and 24 bednets were donated to the hospital.
