Yet to be identified gunmen yesterday attacked a police station at Rijiyar Zaki, along the Bayero University permanent site in Kano metropolis.

When contacted, the Kano State police public relations officer, ASP Magaji Musa Majiya confirmed the attack, saying the incident happened about 12pm.

“There was an exchange of fire between the attackers and policemen, and in the process three policemen sustained minor injuries,” he said.

He said the gunmen, who went to the area on a motorcycle, opened fire on the policemen, but the police were able to repel the attack. He added that security personnel had since cordoned off the area with a view to effecting the arrest of the suspects.

“The police station is intact while the injured policemen were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention,” he stated.

Also, in Adamawa State, some un-indentified gunmen believed to be members of the Boko Haram, yesterday killed another police officer identified as Mohammed Ali, who was in charge of the Adamawa State unit of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).

The incident took place around the NTP state secretariat, along Mubi-road in Jimeta-Yola. According to an eyewitness account, the gunmen numbering about 4 stormed the area on a motorcycle and surrounded the deceased with sophisticated weapons, killing him in the process.

All efforts to get the state police public relations officer, ASP Altine Daniel to confirm the incident were not successful as she could not pick her calls, neither did she reply to the text message sent to her.
