Some military pensioners on Tuesday in Lagos called for a periodic review of their pensions to reflect salary increases for serving officers.

The pensioners told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on the sideline of a 13-day verification exercise, that their monthly pensions should be adjusted in tune with the current realities.

Sixty-five-year-old retired Navy Captain Giwa Adisa noted that his pension was paid promptly, but said it could not be compared with what serving officers currently earn.

``The pension should be adjusted from time to time to reflect salary increases in the service,’’ said the officer, who bowed out after 28 years in service.

Steve Offor, a retired Warrant Officer, also said there was need for a raise in the pensions.

He suggested that a waiting room should be provided for old men while waiting for their turn.

Another retired Warrant Officer, Adebayo Adegunwa, expressed satisfaction with the exercise, describing it as hitch-free and fast.

`` was attended to within six minutes; it is an improvement over last year’s exercise,’’ he told NAN.

Seventy-one-year-old Patrick Egbutsa, who said he travelled from Delta for the exercise, also lauded the organisers for a successful verification.
