The sum of N500 million has been approved by the Bauchi State Government for the purchase of animal feeds under its Animals Feeds Supplementation Subsidy programme.

The State Commissioner for Animal Health and Nomadic Resettlement, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim, said that the programme was initiated by the ministry when it discovered the hardship faced by livestock farmers in acquiring feeds during dry season.

“The total amount approved by the council is N500 million and we intend to divide it into phases, the first phase is going to be N250 million and the next one we will try N250 million”, Ibrahim told newsmen in Bauchi.

He explained that the ministry has done all the technical work involved in the subsidy programme and gave the assurance that livestock farmers would have easy access to their basic needs.

The commissioner also said that the ministry; the first of its kind in the federation, when created  realised the reason why cattle breeders and livestock farmers move around during the dry season which, he attributed, to very scarce and costly animal feeds.
