Africa’s most decorated female player and Super Falcons’ goal machine, Perpetua Nkwocha is about to add another feather to her cap. The three-time African Footballer of the Year who plies her professional trade with Swedish Damallsvenskan Club, Sunnana SK has been nominated for the sports woman of the year award in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.
SuperSport.com gathered that the award organised by the African Women Sports Reporters Unit (AWSRU), of which Nigeria is a member, is an event packaged to celebrate Africa’s women athletes who have excelled in their different fields of sports.
The expected colourful event will hold on Friday, March 30, 2012.
The Lagos State chapter of AWSRU under its chairperson, Pepsie Ogechi Adiukwu is adequately gearing up to be part of the epoch making event in Abidjan.
Adiukwu just returned from a three-day seminar and workshop in Bamako, Mali where she represented Nigeria women sports journalists at the 6th edition of the African International Sports Convention of which AWSRU is an affiliate member.
The event held between February 29 and March 3 drew together over 100 delegates from Asia, Africa and Europe under the banner of ANOCA, in conjunction with the Malian Olympic Committee, had in attendance the Director General of NSC, Dr Patrick Ekeji as well as members of the IOC.
