The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, has tasked the Kano State Government to prevail on the Federal Government to start the rehabilitation of railroads in the state to save the roads from over use.

The Emir made the request while receiving the state Commissioner for Land and Survey, Mr Muhammad Nadi, who visited him at the Palace on Monday.

He attributed the bad shape of the roads to the current damage resulting from large and haulage vehicles which plied them regularly over the years.

Bayero said the railroads could complement the use of roads if improved to the level that users could be secured to utilise the roads.

He commended the state government's efforts at providing new residential sites across the state to enable the people acquire modern houses.

Earlier, the Commissioner said that he visited to brief the Emir on the state government's plans to expand Kano settlements.

Nadi, however, said that the plan was necessary to decongest the city of Kano, which had already been over populated.

He said the expansion would serve as an opportunity for people to acquire permanent residences.
