The Enugu State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr Joshua Olowookere has urged the “Batch A” corps members undergoing their orientation programme to access the scheme's free interest loan.
Olowookere said in a telephone interview with our correspondent in Enugu on Tuesday that the best means the corps members could access the loan was through participation in the ongoing skills acquisition programme in the orientation camp.
According to him, the Federal Government has given the scheme over N500 million loan for corps members to access during their service year for the purpose of making a living after the service as part of the determination to wage war against poverty.
The state coordinator said the skills acquisition programme was must participation for all corps members and urged them to fix themselves into one skill or the other which included fishery, bead making, barbing saloon and welding.
“The aim of the training programme is for graduates to have access to livelihood after service. The era of graduates roaming the streets after service, searching for jobs will be a story of the past with the skills acquisition programme.”
Olowookere called on corps members to go for more practical’s on the different skills they were trained upon during their primary assignment, adding that two weeks training in the camp was not enough.
He said that the procedure for accessing the loan would be through feasibility study presentation which would determine the amount the corps member could access the interest free loan
