The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) on Tuesday, in Abuja, rejected calls for a ban on live telecast of public hearings in the National Assembly.
The National Publicity of the party, Mr Rotimi Fashakin, made the party's position on the issue known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said that the live telecast of the activities of the legislative arm of government represented the core values and essence of democracy, which he added, was about transparency.
“Our party CPC we are totally against any call to stop live telecast, we want the live telecast to continue, for other television stations to even get interested in it because that is the real democracy.
“Our position is that live telecast should continue because we stand for transparency; he that cometh with equity must come with clean hands.
“If you have nothing hideous and if you have not done something iniquitous if your hands are clean you have no reason to stop live telecast because you have nothing to hide anyway.’’
Fashakin added that those calling for the ban were persons with hidden agenda.
He said that the CPC would always stand for transparency, accountability and social justice and called on Nigerians to always demand for transparency and accountability in governance.
