Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, on Wednesday urged PDP leaders in the North-west zone to promote unity in the party.

Tambuwal made the call in his address at the PDP North West Zonal congress in Kaduna.

He said that promoting unity and fairness among party members in the zone would consolidate the party’s dominance of the area.

The speaker urged the leaders to always remember that they occupied influential positions in the party, noting that this would directly or indirectly determine the party's decisions at national level.

``The likes of Sir Ahmadu Bello, Malam Aminu Kano, Alhaji Shehu Shagari and Late Umaru Yar'Adua remained paramount in terms of provision of sincere, fair and just leadership.

``You should always consider what is fair, just and sincere in dealing with each and every member of the party in the zone,'' he said.

Tambuwal urged  delegates to be calm during the congress, adding that other zones were waiting to hear the outcome of the congress.

The congress, chaired by Vice-President Namadi Sambo, was attended by PDP governors from the zone, ministers of education, defence, works and environment.

Others include members of the federal and state assemblies as well as party chairmen in the zone. (NAN)
